The bell of the Year of the Tiger is about to ring. On behalf of the Consulate General of Italy in Hong Kong, I would like to extend my warmest holiday greetings to friends from every walk of life in Hong Kong, wishing you all a happy Chinese New Year!
2022 is the Year of the Tiger, the king of all beasts in China, symbolizing strength, power, bravery, confidence and determination. Those are exactly the virtues we all need to face the challenges and grasp the opportunities of the critical times we are living in.
In spite of adversity, the Consulate General of Italy and the other Italian agencies in Hong Kong managed to arrange several cultural and business activities last year, building bridges between our communities in a time when traveling became so difficult.
Most significantly, we hosted ITALIA MIA, the festival of Italian culture and lifestyle across three months, from October to December, which brought an authentic taste of Italy to the local audience. The Dante Alighieri Society opened its new Italian language center inside Hong Kong Arts Centre. Meanwhile Italy, as president of the G20 summit and cochair of COP26, engaged partners around the world to develop global responses to challenges such as Covid-19 pandemic, economic recovery and climate change.
We are still living under the threat of Covid-19. With the expansion of vaccination programs globally, I sincerely hope that we will see the light at the end of the tunnel in the Year of the Tiger.
In 2022, Italy and China are celebrating the joint Year of Culture and Tourism, further expanding the cultural exchanges between two of the most ancient civilizations. The Consulate General and the Italian Cultural Institute are working hard to arrange a number of exciting cultural and social events in Hong Kong.
We all should look to the future with confidence and hope.
Wishing you all a happy, peaceful, healthy and prosperous Chinese New Year! Gong Hei Fat Choy!
