On behalf of us all at the Consulate-General of Malaysia in the Hong Kong SAR, I am delighted to have the opportunity to wish the readers of Bauhinia Magazine the warmest of felicitations for the Chinese Lunar New Year!
We are ushering in this auspicious occasion in a time when the challenges of COVID-19 and its effects all over the world still loom large. But despite the situation, I am pleased to underscore that Malaysia-China bilateral relations, as well as Malaysia-Hong Kong SAR ties, are as strong as they have ever been.
While relations have existed for thousands of years, Malaysia was the first ASEAN member to establish diplomatic relations with China; in 1974. Since then, our historical, cultural and civilizational ties have blossomed in scope and substance, and we now share a comprehensive strategic partnership, encompassing myriad areas of cooperation.
Malaysia and the Hong Kong SAR enjoy excellent relations, premised on One Country, Two Systems. Our friendship is characterised by robust trade and investment ties, and close people-to-people, education, tourism and cultural bonds.
The New Year brings new opportunities, be it in Malaysia, Hong Kong, the GBA, or the wider RCEP. In this vein, I wish to reiterate my call to the business community here and the region to embrace Malaysia as your premier gateway to ASEAN. Benefit from our competitive advantages, as well as our incentives and tax breaks, particularly in the high-tech ad high-value sectors.
This year is the Year of the Water Tiger, which encourages bold action as the Tiger is usually associated with power, daring, and ability. In this spirit, may all our friends at, and readers of, Bauhinia Magazine join us and be inspired by the Tiger to achieve greater successes together for the mutual benefit of Malaysia-China, and also Malaysia-Hong Kong SAR relations.
Once again, allow me to reiterate my best wishes for the Chinese Lunar New Year. May the New Year bring you perfect health, boundless happiness, and abundant prosperity!
