On behalf of the Consulate General of Malaysia in Hong Kong SAR, PRC, I am delighted to wish readers of Bauhinia Magazine a Happy Chinese New Year.
Historically, Malaysia has long forged strong bonds of friendship with our dear friends in Hong Kong SAR. In modern history, Malaysia was the first ASEAN member country to establish diplomatic relations with China in 1974. Since then, our historical, cultural, and civilizational ties have grown rapidly and dynamically. The strong and deep collaboration is reflected this year as our two countries celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
In line with the "One Country, Two Systems", Malaysia and Hong Kong SAR enjoy excellent relations characterised by robust trade and investment ties, close people-to-people exchanges, education, tourism, and cultural bonds.
I am optimistic that the New Year will usher in a new era of opportunities, be it in Malaysia, Hong Kong or the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. In this vein, I wish to reiterate my call to the business community here and the region to embrace Malaysia as your strategically-located gateway to ASEAN, leveraging opportunities opened by the ASEAN-Hong Kong Free Trade and Investment agreements. In addition, Malaysia is supportive of Hong Kong SAR's aspirations to accede to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and believes that Hong Kong SAR would benefit and contribute positively to the economic bloc.
Once again, I would like to wish all our friends in Hong Kong SAR happy Chinese New Year. May the Year of the Rabbit bring you good health, happiness, and prosperity!
