How international community views China through lens of “two sessions”
The NPC and the CPPCC, known as the "two sessions", are not only of great significance in China's political calendar, but also closely watched internationally. Foreign diplomats and experts express their take on China's "two sessions", that China's democracy is a true people's democracy, and China's high-quality development will impact the world.
China’s democracy is a true people’s democracy
China’s democracy is a true people’s democracy. Whether a model of democracy works should be judged by the people. Addressing poverty and ensuring that the people live a productive life concern a country’s biggest national and public interests.
—— Natee Taweesrifuengfung
president of the Thailand-based Siam Think Tank
I have described the Chinese Democratic process, particularly referring to the “two sessions” as the most inclusive process, whereby you have people from different backgrounds represented here. When you listen to the reports that are presented here, they include the views and the interest and the passion and the aspirations of the people. And for me, I describe it as a very inclusive democratic process that I have ever seen in my life.
—— James Kimonyo
Ambassador of Rwanda to China
Just take a look at what China used to be 20, 15, 10 years ago and what China is now, and the projection of the future. Every country’s political system is based upon their very particular needs. So this is amazing because this is the result. This is another kind of democracy and this democracy works for China.
—— Aldonov Frankeko Alvarez
Ambassador of El Salvador to China
I was following the two sessions last year. There was a driver who was one of the deputies appointed to sit in that body. There were delivery riders, farmers, teachers, cooks, doctors, who ordinarily will not make it to an institution where laws are made.
What captures my attention when it comes to China and (its) politics is that (the Chinese) have chosen a path that tends to bring people at the center of decision-making.
—— Eric Biegon
journalist at Kenya Broadcasting Corporation
I think the outcomes that China has achieved in recent years show that the process (the decision-making in the “two sessions”) is broad in opinion and effective in results. The country’s economic and social achievements speak for themselves.
—— Ronnie Lins
director of the China-Brazil Center for Research and Business
China’s high-quality development will impact the world
The living standards of the Chinese people are constantly improving. China’s political system and governance system are clearly accepted and enjoyed by its people, which can be seen in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic and in the process of eliminating absolute poverty.
—— Azza Radwan Sedky
columnist for the Egyptian newspaper Ahram
Under the BRI, we hope to further explore aspects in which we can cooperate, and improve not only the physical nature of our infrastructure, but also the livelihoods of our people.
—— Hallam Henry
Ambassador of Barbados to China
Of course, what is important for us as UAE is how we line up ourselves and see the way China is looking forward and to find, to bridge between our progress and China’s progress.
While many economies are struggling, it is a very important target that nobody underestimates the importance of China’s economic growth and progress. So in that sense, (it is) a good positive sign to see that China is getting back and focusing on the growing economy where it would be contributing in the world economy.
—— Ali Al Dhaheri
Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to China
I am sure that the recovery of Chinese economy will really impact the rest of the world. So I am quite sure that the global economy will really feel the impact, and that will happen very soon.
—— Aldonov Frankeko Alvarez
Ambassador of El Salvador to China
Looking at China’s development paradigm, which is focusing on green development and renewable energy, new systems of technologies to deal with the challenges, we are looking at the whole range of what is considered to be green development in its broader sense.
—— James Kimonyo
Ambassador of Rwanda to China
We commend China’s efforts in pushing for green economy and to clean up China’s environment, because it also affects the global economy as well as the global environment.
—— Jaime Florcruz
Ambassador of the Philippines to China
