Strengthening a peaceful and multilateral international order: China can play a role of moderation and ancient wisdom

Over the past decade, China has continued the extraordinary economic and technological progress that has characterized this country for over thirty years. The data are clear and impressive. This unprecedented development is the result of the energy and commitment of citizens and the leadership of the Party that promoted and governed it.
The Chinese government has been arguing for the past decade in favor of globalization and in favor of multilateralism. China, which is now on the verge of becoming the planet's leading economic power, to advance its development, has every interest in strengthening a peaceful and multilateral international order, in particular by strengthening relations and exchanging with the European Union.

Over the past decade, the People's Republic of China has continued the extraordinary economic and technological progress that has characterized this country for over thirty years. The data are clear and impressive. Here are some relevant data from the World Bank on China ( see chart ).
This unprecedented development is the result of the energy and commitment of citizens and the leadership of the Party that promoted and governed it.
The past two years disrupted by the pandemic have posed an additional strain for China, as for the rest of the planet, but it can be hoped that even this hurdle will be overcome soon.
Next ten years, China and the EU will continue to
play a central role for common welfare and progress
The Chinese government and in particular Xi Jinping have been arguing for the past decade in favor of globalization, that is, the greater integration of economies around the world, and in favor of multilateralism, which has emerged on a planetary scale after the end of the Cold War and the collapse of the Soviet system.
An open and pluralist system of international relations rejects the conflict between great powers that has characterized international relations in the past century with disastrous consequences particularly for Europe and Asia. The breakdown of international trade and a return to a division between Western countries and the rest of the world serves neither China nor its international partners, especially European countries.
Today the issue is that of the restoring order and peaceful international coexistence in a spirit of tolerance and cooperation. Unlike the West, China has never expressed intentions to export its political model. China competes economically and peacefully with other countries in the international market, and no one will be able to exclude it from this competition. It can also play a role of moderation and ancient wisdom. In particular, it can do a lot for the stability and growth of trade relations with the countries of the European Union, with which trade is, as mentioned, of great importance.
China and the European Union have no interest in an opposition between the West and the rest of the world like the one that existed between capitalist countries and the Soviet regime after World War II.
Despite the difficulties of the moment related to the pandemic that is slowing down the economy, China must carry out a renewed political initiative. Until a few decades ago, the world was divided between two blocs. Today it is seeking a new balance. China, which is now on the verge of becoming the planet’s leading economic power, to advance its development, has every interest in strengthening a peaceful and multilateral international order, in particular by strengthening relations and exchanging with the European Union. Over the past decade, these relationships have brought mutual benefits to the two partners. It is in everyone's interest that in the next ten years China and the European Union will continue to play a central role for common welfare and progress, and against wars, disorder, and violence in the world.
